Belt of Truth
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness."
Roman soldiers wore a duty belt to carry necessities with them for daily living and fighting. Paul calles this very necessary duty belt a "truth belt" for the Christian warrior. As we face the temptations, deceptions, partial truths, lies, false guilt and other schemes of the enemy we need the truth to walk in victory.
The enemy says, "Are you sure God will provide? It looks like He forgot all about you." We use the truth of God's promise of daily provision given in Matthew 6:25-34 to defeat the taunts of the enemy. The enemy says, "This trial will ruin your business. Just give up and quit." We take James 1:2-5 from our belt of truth and win the day by counting the trial all joy and asking God for the wisdom to make it through the trial and profit.
The truth is placed on our belt by reading, studying and remembering the Word of God. We need to daily replenish the truth on our belt by systematically reading the Bible.
How is your truth belt?
Is your truth belt well stocked with the daily truth we need to fight and win the battle against the powers of darkness? In the Marine corps, I had to keep my duty belt supplied to be prepared for any event that would come my way as I defended our country from our enemies. It is even more important for each of us to be disciplined in our learning and living the Truth so we can daily defeat the enemy. The enemy has no scheme that will deceive or defeat the truth.
Be a good soldier in the Lord's army and keep your truth belt freshly stocked daily.
May the truth set you free.
