Matthew 15:29 Jesus went on from there and walked beside the Sea of Galilee. And he went up on the mountain and sat down there. 30 And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them, 31 so that the crowd marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.
The Apostle John tells us that Jesus received the Spirit without measure. He was gifted in every area to do miracles authenticating He was the coming King, the Savior of the World. Luke 7:18-23 relates to us the time that John the Baptist sought to find out if Jesus was truly the Savior of the world. Jesus showed the messengers miracles of healing diseases, delivering people from demons and making the blind to see to authenticate He was the Messiah, the Savior of the world, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Great crowds came to learn the truth from Jesus. This session with the crowds of people lasted three days (Matthew 15:32).
Today, the ministry of Jesus is carried forward by the Church, the Body of Christ. All who believe receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit distributes to each member of the Body spiritual gifts as He wills (1 Corinthians 12:11). In Ephesians 4:7 Paul instructs us that grace gifts are given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Paul tells us that the Body builds itself up in love as each part uses its measure of grace for the others. The authenticating works of Jesus are now to be carried out by the Church, the light of the world. As each of us do the good works prepared for us (Ephesians 2:10) displaying the character of Christ (Galatians 5:22-23), we let the world know we have been sent by God with the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. As people marveled at what the Holy Spirit did through Jesus, it ought to marvel at what God is doing through the church. Think what a miracle it would be for God's people to be forsaking habits of sin and building each other up in love.
Lets pray for each of us to be like Christ and do Christ's work by the power of the Holy Spirit. Lets live our lives by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20)
