Romans 11:33-36 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how impossible to understand are his ways! 34 "For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?" 35 "Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?" 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Proverbs 20:24 A man's steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
We need to take God at His word because He rose from the dead on the third day just as He said He would (John 2:18-22). Paul, Solomon, and the Prophet Isaiah all write that God’s ways are impossible for us to understand without the help of the Lord. We are finite in our understanding and He is infinite. We are warped in our understanding by sin and God is sinless. We are to study the Scriptures and ask God to help us understand and obey His truth. It is God Who reveals His truth to us and gives us understanding (1 Corinthians 2:11-12). We do not know the mind of God unless He reveals it to us. We never counsel God, but He is the Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6). God owes us nothing, yet He has given us all things in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:21-23). If He has given us all things then He owns all things. We can say with Paul, “To Him be glory forever.” God is deserving of all glory. He is the One deserving all honor, majesty and splendor. He owed us nothing and yet has given us everything in Christ. Even if we don’t understand how He does things, we know He knows the best way!
Are you willing to obey the clear word of God even if you don’t understand how it will work? If you are willing to obey, then you will live enjoying the riches of His grace even in the midst of the sufferings of life.
