Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
“Wake up! Wake up! It’s time for work! Too much partying last night. Take off the party clothes and get dressed for work. There are people depending on you to get your work done so they can live!”
The Apostle Paul is rousing the “sleeping” Christians from their sleep and telling them to take off their sinful clothes, put on the clothes of Christ and get to work displaying Christ and saving lives. The deadline for being saved is drawing near and we do not have much time left to finish our work of helping people to be saved from their sins by hearing the gospel, repenting of their sins, believing Jesus died for their sins on the cross, rose from the dead on the third day, and now reigns as Lord over all.
The picture is of people planning how to fulfill their sinful desires and not planning to get their God-given, life giving work done before the deadline of the final Judgment. We Christians need to wake up from our sinful lifestyles and begin to do the work of Jesus Christ using the resources of grace He has given us.
Many people are depending on you to wake up, get to work, and complete your God-given assignments.
Wake up! Live with urgency. The end is near. Souls are at stake.
May you be motivated by the love of Jesus today.
