Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.
The first step we can take as a believer in Jesus Christ to know how to use the power we have in Christ to live an abundant and purposeful life in any circumstance among any people, is to set our heart to study the Bible. What we set our heart on is what we expend our time and energy doing. Ezra set his heart to study and know God's word ("the Law or instruction of God") and he became skilled in it (Ezra 7:6). If we set our heart to study and know God's word, we will become skilled in it and know the power we have in Christ. Do you know the power you have as a believer in Christ?
If I was given a computer complete with programs that would enable me to do the job assigned me, would it be useful to me if I didn't know the programs and what they could do? I would know I had been given all I needed to do my assigned work, but I would have to study the programs to know them before I could use them to do my work. It is the same with us as believers in Jesus Christ. We are given all we need to do our assigned work from God, to be the person God wants us to be and to live a godly, abundant life in every circumstance among any people while doing His assigned work (Ephesians 1:3; 2 Peter 1:3-4). We may know we have been given all we need in Christ, but don't know what we have and need to study the word of God to know. We need to set our heart to study God's word to know the power we have been given in Christ to live abundantly while doing the assigned work we have been given by the Lord.
Once you have set your heart, begin to systematically read God's word by reading Genesis chapters 1-11. Continue to systematically read God's word by starting at Matthew and reading straight through Revelation. Do this systematic reading three times and then read the entire Bible through chronologically, beginning in the Old Testament and the New Testament simultaneously, so you read some old and some new each day. Take the first step today. It will transform your life.
