Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
How did earth begin? This question is a life changer. Why? If what the Bible says is true (and it is) then we are confronted with a powerful and knowledgeable God who made us and everything we see and know about now and everything we don't see and know about, but one day will. We know life has purpose because God created all things.
Most of the population in the USA has been taught in state schools that evolution (not talking about natural selection as evolution and natural selection are different) is how the heavens and earth began. Evolution is a teaching that states everything that exists evolved from random combinations of elements that somehow became rocks, trees, animals, humans and whatever else that exists in the universe. It is taught in evolution that non-living elements developed into living organisms and then, through death, disease, mutation, and time, developed into the very complex organisms and ecosystems we have today - and all without a designer. This teaching is very dangerous because it removes people's accountability to God, their Creator, and the proper stewardship of His creation.
We know that God created the heavens and the earth out of nothing because Jesus Christ said so. We know what Jesus says is true because He raised from the dead in three days just as He said He would. This is recorded in John 2:18-22 "Then the Jews demanded of Him, 'What miraculous sign can You show us to prove Your authority to do all this?' Jesus answered them, 'Destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days.' The Jews replied, 'It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and You are going to raise it in three days?' But the temple He had spoken of was His body. After He was raised from the dead, His disciples recalled what He had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words Jesus had spoken." Jesus validated the creation account by His resurrection from the dead.
What does this mean to us? It means that God created the heavens and the earth. We have purpose. We have the Creator's book on how His creation is to work and through Jesus Christ we have the power to live according to the way we are created to live. Thus, we have also have direction on how to live an abundant life and eternal life.
What are we to do? We are to acknowledge our Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ, and live according to His word, the Bible using the power He gives to all who believe the gospel (Christ died for our sins on the cross, rose from the dead on the third day and is Lord of all). To live according to His word we need to learn His Word. We are to be reading systematically through the Bible each day. The time spent in the
Word of God will become your greatest delight.
