Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
When were angels created? Genesis 2:1 informs us that angels were created in the first six days of creation. The word "host" refers to an organized body of angels. The New Testament also validates the creation of angels: Colossians 1:15-16 "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things were created through him and for him."
From the beginning of creation we have had a seven day week. God established the seven day week. He built into creation a day of rest from work. Read what God has said of the rest day: Deuteronomy 5:14 "but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do." God created us with a need to rest one day out of seven. We will be more productive if we do so.
God also gave us a day of rest so we could worship Him and remember Him as our Creator and Provider.
Leviticus 23:3 "'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD."
The seventh day is a day of rest from work and day to worship the Lord. What we are to do on our day off: We are to rest and reflect on the Lord. It is to be a day when we can spend time in the Word, in fellowship with the Lord. Are you resting your body on your day off? Are resting your soul by listening to Jesus and learning from Him? If you aren't, then you need to change your life to fit the rhythm of life God created us to need. The abundant life is lived as we live life as God created us to live.
