Job 23:8 "But if I go to the east, he is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find him. 9 When he is at work in the north, I do not see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him. 10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. 11 My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside. 12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.
There are times in our lives when we don't see God at work in our personal circumstances. It look like everything is against us. Our text for today is a great encouragement to us in such times. It is also great counsel on how to live through the times we can't see God at work in our life. Job 23:8-9 are the words of a righteous man who lost all his family except his wife, who lost all his material possessions, and who lost his health. He couldn't see God in the midst of his circumstances.
Job 23:10a tells us Job didn't rely on himself and his knowledge of his situation. Job states confidently. "But He knows the way I take." It is very comforting that the Creator of the universe knows our situation. Job 23:10b tells us Job knew what God was doing in his life and the outcome of God's action, "When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold."
Job knew what to do in the midst of God's test: (1) He kept following God closely, (2) he did not turn aside from following God even if the circumstances were terrible, (3) he kept obeying God's commands, (4) he treasured God's word more than his daily bread.
The LORD knows what is happening in our life in this season of life. He cares about what is happening (1 Peter 5:7). He will take care of us at the right time (Psalm 31:15; Romans 5:6). Nothing is impossible for our Lord and He is faithful to do all He says He will (Luke 1:37; 1 Thessalonians 5:24).
Good times? Difficult times? Impossible times? Follow Job's example.
