John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.
All of us who have believed the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 10:9) have the capacity to hear Jesus' voice and follow Him. If we use that capacity and follow Him, He will give us eternal life and lead us to live life abundantly in adverse and hostile environments. How do we use that capacity to hear and follow Jesus?
We hear Jesus when we humble ourselves before Him set our mind to understand His word. Daniel set us an example to follow recorded in Daniel 10:12. Daniel was shown God's word and didn't understand it, but he called out for understanding as he humbled himself before God and God gave him understanding. The understanding didn't come right away, but it came. We need to ask God to help us understand His Word and expect Him to fulfill His promise to teach us and guide us into all truth (John 14:26; 16:13; 1 Corinthians 2:12). We use our capacity to hear when we humble ourselves before God (James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5).
We use our capacity to follow Jesus when we live by faith in Him (Galatians 2:20; 2 Thessalonians 1:11). We live by faith by attempting to be and do what we hear from Jesus expecting Him to fulfill our attempt with His power. We use our capacity to follow Jesus when we deny our own plans and purposes and seek to live according to His plans and purposes (Matthew 16:24). We use our capacity to follow Jesus when we are willing to die following Him and choose each day to get His directions and follow (Matthew 16:24). We use our capacity to follow when we put Him above all relationships and are willing to give up everything to follow (Luke 14:26,33).
Do you have the capacity to live an eternal and abundant life in all circumstances? You can by believing the gospel. Are you living an abundant life in adverse and hostile circumstances? You can by listening to Jesus and practicing what He says. If you aren't hearing Him begin to do what the above scriptures teach. If you aren't living abundantly in your circumstances, begin to follow Jesus as taught in the above scriptures. We can hear and follow Jesus and have an eternal and abundant life. (Did you take the time to look up the scriptures? You should as it helps you hear. Don't be lazy)
