Matthew 14:6 But when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod, 7 so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. 8 Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter." 9 And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given. 10 He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, 11 and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 And his disciples came and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus.
John the Baptist ran afoul of people in high places by confronting them about a sinful marriage. John told King Herod and his new wife, Herodias, they violated God's standard when they married. Herodias was married to Herod's brother, Philip and should have remained married to him for life according to God's Word (Matthew 19:4-6). The king put John in prison. Herodias had John's head removed. John was willing to die doing God's will and he did, but not before he had completed his God-given assignment.
Today, people get hostile if a Christian calls certain marriages sin. However, if the Christians don't speak up, people begin to think sin is right. If sin is thought of as right and becomes the practice of the people, then Proverbs 14:34b becomes true and a nation becomes a disgrace to the people. Even more, people who think sin is right will experience not only temporal disgrace, but eternal torment in the Lake of Fire (Revelation 21:8).
Let us be a people like John the Baptist and call marriages that go against God's word, abortion, living together outside of marriage, gambling, greed, disobedience to parents, etc, SIN. The law of God diagnoses sin. If we don't diagnose sin, people will not know what is ruining their lives. Jesus cures sin. If people know they are sinful, then they are prepared for the cure Jesus can give them, forgiveness of sin and empowerment to not sin. We have the diagnosis. We have the cure. Let's not withhold either from those in our sphere of influence.
