Matthew 21:12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you make it a den of robbers." 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant, 16 and they said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes; have you never read, "' Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise'?" 17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.
Jesus lived His life according to the scriptures. His actions and replies were in accordance with the written word of God. Matthew 21:12 records Jesus removing the money changers and those who sold pigeons from the temple. Why did He do that? Matthew 21:13 reveals Jesus acted according to the scriptures. The temple area was to be a place of prayer for all people, not a market place gouging people by selling goods at inflated prices.
Jesus responded to the indignant chief priests' and scribes' outrage when the children in the temple welcomed Jesus by crying out, "Hosanna to the Son of David!", by quoting Psalm 8:2, "Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise." Jesus spoke and acted according to the scriptures.
Jesus left us an example to follow. How do we follow His example? We need to learn the scriptures and base our actions and responses upon the written word of God. In the United States today about 4% of the population lives according to the scriptures. Our moral condition is spiraling downward. We need to practice Romans 12:2 "Be not conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind so that you will be able to test and approve God's will, His good, please and perfect will." Are you willing to renew your mind by reading, learning and practicing God's written word? If you are begin to read Genesis 1-11 and then go to Matthew 1 and systematically read through Revelation. Do that three times and then begin to read systematically through the Old Testament and New testament - some of each every day. It will not only change your life, but the lives of the people around you.
