Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
Our heavenly Father desires to give good things to those who ask Him, seek Him and knock on His door.
The key words are “good things”. Our heavenly Father will not give us “bad things”, things that will not
benefit us. How do we know what to ask for, seek after and which door to knock on?
1 John 5:14-15 instructs us to ask according to God’s will and then we know we will receive what we ask.
God’s will is good, pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2). Jesus instructs us to seek God’s kingdom (rule) and righteousness. These are “good things” such as love, joy, peace, work, and wisdom. We are to knock on doors He will open, doors He sets before us. 1 Corinthians 16:9 tells us God set before Paul a door for effective service. Revelation 3:8 reveals God places doors before us He will open. God only opens doors for us that are good for us.
When we ask God and seek God and knock on God’s doors, we will not get hurtful replies. Our heavenly Father will only do what is best for us. If you get “no” to your request, rejoice. If you don’t get what you are seeking, thank the Lord. If the door you are knocking on doesn’t open, praise the Lord. God will never deny us what is according to His will and what is according to His will is the only thing good for
Learn the Word of God and you will ask, seek, and knock for the good things our heavenly Father desires us to have. As a parent, we desire to give only good things to our children, how much more does our perfect heavenly Father fulfill His desire for us to have good things.
