Matthew 8:14 And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. 16 That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed
all who were sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "He took our illnesses and bore our diseases." Matthew, an apostle of Jesus Christ, writes for us what Jesus did during His time from birth to his ascension back to heaven. Matthew reveals to us how Jesus fulfilled the prophesies made concerning Him hundreds of years before and proves that Jesus was truly the Messiah, the coming King to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). Isaiah the prophet prophesied from about 740 BC to 700 BC. In Isaiah 53:4 Isaiah prophesied that the One who would save His people from their sin would take their illnesses and bear their diseases. Matthew points out that Jesus did that when He healed Peter's mother-in-law of her fever, cast out demons from people and healed all their sicknesses. Jesus is the real deal. We can count on Him to save us from our sins. To experience that salvation we are commanded by Jesus to repent of our sins and believe the gospel, that Jesus died for our sins on the cross, rose again from the dead on the third day and is Lord. When we believe this we are equipped to live an abundant life while living in the midst of a sinful environment. We live the life by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20). Living by faith is attempting to obey Jesus fully expecting Him to fulfill our attempt with His power.
