Romans 2:1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.
To understand this chapter, I want you to answer the following questions to aid your understanding.
What is Paul's assignment given in Romans 1:5-6?
What is the condition of all men and do they have an excuse for such condition as given in Romans 1:18-20?
In Romans 2:1 does the word "excuse" need to be followed back to Romans 1:20? Why? What is the problem Paul is addressing in Romans 2:1? Who is the problem in the Roman church? Is it everybody or certain individuals? Is the "you" singular or plural?
What relevance does Romans 14:13 have in understanding Romans 2:1ff (2:1 and following)?
Tomorrow we will look at answers to these questions to aid our understanding of Romans 2:1 and following and how these scriptures apply to us.
